Santorum Plays Cards

This is a new advertisement for Rick Santorum (hat tip to Jennifer Rubin). Rubin calls it "boffo" - I think the fare is pretty predictable... but the suspense is great. And *** SPOILER ALERT *** the ad really gets its strength because the face you most expect to see doesn't show up. But you're expecting to see it - so you've actually convinced yourself that it belongs in that lineup as well!

I really like the fact that everyone other than Gingrich really won't mudsling at Romney. I think that's a good move considering that he will probably be the nominee. The more I hear about every candidate, the more I like Santorum.

What's wrong with him? What is there not to like before I endorse him (btw, our voter registration cards came in the mail).

I don't like Santorum because he pitches everything as religion. I think a Santorum presidency would make it harder for Christians to remain politically independent (at least in the minds of others), since he'd preach about everything from creating tax loopholes to bombing Iran as if it was God's work.

In addition, he has terrible economic instincts, and seems to think that he can "pick winners" and use gimmicky tax policies to overcome long-term economic change. Romney will be a lot better at dealing with tough economic realities, I think.

So is there any good Republican candidate?

She's even less popular than Obama, that's why. And I agree, three is indeed better than two.

I personally like Santorum, but don't think he has a chance of going anywhere. I remember him as a committed pro-life senator when that was a harder position to take than it is today.

And you're right, the omission is glaring.
