Can anybody explain to me why Massachusetts voters
rejected Question 1, which would have allowed wine sales in grocery stores? The vote was close - closer than the gubernatorial - even though the only people with an obvious reason to vote 'No' are liquor store owners and employees. Seriously, what went on here?

There were a hell of a lot of ads, claiming that alcohol in convieninece stores and gas stations would lead to an increase in drunk driving. In short, the liquor stores must have spent millions on the campaign.
Talking to my friends, I found a lot of closet anti-drinking folks out there. To them, it was a vote against drunkenness.
